The maximum possible manufacturing capacity for a cable of 52 mm diameter is 7,000 meters (over 4.3 miles). This length is limited only by the weight capacity of the cable machine itself. The weight capacity is 110 metric tons (5 tons for the spool, 105 tons for the cable). Consequently, with 7,000 meters of cable, the spool would be 4.6 meters in diameter and 3 meters wide and the load to be transported 110 tons. Convenience and cost of conventional transportation becomes the limiting factor to cable lengths and therefore 3,000 to 4,000 meter cables are now in use.
